The Redistricting Action group is an ad-hoc committee convened to address the time-limited redistricting activities taking place locally and at the state level. Redistricting occurs every ten years and uses current Census data to redraw political boundaries that best represent school board, municipal, county and state level voters. This Action Group is a sub-committee of the Voter Services and Voter Protection Committees. Generally speaking, the Action Group Chair uses these two group meeting times to discuss redistricting and does not hold separate meetings.
This group works to increase awareness, advocate and educate our community on the purpose of redistricting generally, and about the two Florida Constitutional amendments that address fair representation of all voters in the redistricting and thus political process, in particular.
The group plans to:
- Educate and advocate for fair and equitable maps that reflect the characteristics of Florida’s voters at the local and state level.
- Join efforts with other LWV action groups as appropriate.
- Coordinate with other community groups and provide information and education on redistricting advocacy.
- Support Redistricting issues that are clear priorities of LWVFL, LWVUS and LWVHC.
